Sangiovese/Montepulciano | Fongoli | "Rossofongoli" | Umbria, IT | 2019
The Fongoli estate is now on its 4th generation of vignaiolo with Angelo Fongoli at the helm. In the 1980s the estate shifted away from poly-culture and transitioned to monoculture for economic reasons. It has since been converted back to polyculture and is a thriving farm with plenty of biodiversity including olive trees, forest, natural truffle production, legumes, grains, and other nitrogen-rich, complex-rooted plants that open the soil and add nutrients.
Here we see a fresh style of Sangiovese (with Montepulciano blended in) displaying crunchy red fruits. A light red that is begging for a slight chill and a pizza pie!
